Keyword Marketing: The Vital Point of SEO

Keywords has always been the root why SEO is such a blast. It’s all about optimizing your pages with the right keywords, keywords that will drive traffic to your website. It’s always about the which keywords, what phrases, what combinations. So much to say, Keyword Marketing is the Vital point of the success of an SEO/SEM campaign.

The common objective of people implying an SEO campaign on their website is traffic. The more the traffic the better specially for fast moving consumer product sites, mega sites or online stores, service sites, and even information websites due to the advertising opportunity and leverage one can get by having lots of visitors to your website.

Just look at About.com for example, an information portal which if you dig further has their own advertising matrix with stats and demographics to show. Traffic is key to a site’s success!

And SEO or search engine marketing is one way of actually increasing traffic to your website. But how exactly? That is the big question. Well it all depends on the keywords you promote your site with. Researching your keywords well will give you a forecast on what to expect when you get top positions. There are websites which you can use to analyze how much search volume does your keywords have and what other keywords related to your main keyword which has good volume. From there you can then also analyze the competition for each giving you a much clearer idea if the keyword is feasible or not basing on the time a campaign would be spent on it.

Getting to number 1 position is great, but being number 1 in a keyword that has a low search volume to none is seemingly a waste of money and probably will only give a low traffic return to your site.

On the other hand, campaigning for high volume high competition keywords can leave you broke like having to dedicate 1-2 years of campaigning before getting into a top positions.

This is why the beginning is the most vital, it can dictate the success and profitability plus returns of a search engine marketing campaign. Don’t take keyword research for granted, as it might take your business for granted as well.

A good SEO company will advice you well and enough to help you decide the directions you need to undertake. Understanding your company and objective will be one of the things to consider as well which will make it more sensible for the keywords that you wish to target and market on.

Professional Choice of a SEO Company

Reports surfacing in forums and newsletters around the Internet clearly demonstrate how certain companies resort to spamming the search engines while seeking better rankings. In that sense, one cannot possibly stress enough that it’s crucial to hire SEO consultants and search engine marketers who are ethical. In all circumstance, it’s best to keep sight on which SEO companies provide a legitimate service, and which strive for quick profits by using shady techniques. This is true in all industrys, not just SEO. If the people in our industry can remember this when trying to create a Professional SEO Company (and there are many factions trying to do this), it will go a lot smoother.

How does one handle prospective customers who think they know what’s best for their SEO strategies, as result of their misinformation. What if such kind of customer will approach you requesting a proposal for 10 doorway pages. They stubbornly refuse your advice to make modifications to their actual website, and they insist that you only work from the “fringes”.

Through this kind of manipulative technique, one tricks the search engines into finding those pages by linking a sitemap containing the “fringe network” into the actual homepage. When visitors find one of the doorway domains via search engines, they end up making unnecessary clicks before they finally arrive in their desired destination. What would you do in this kind of situation? Would you attend to the customer’s misinformed request even though you knew it would not be a wise optimization strategy? Truth of the matter, building the pages that way wouldn’t be exactly disreputable. Still, the customer’s website already had several pages with good content? Once it gets down to it, the creation of those doorway pages would be nothing but a waste time; what the customer really needs is something much simpler: the optimization of the current content with appropriate search keywords.

If you ever get faced with this kind of situation and you really can’t talk sense into the customer, trust me: it will be better to just let him go. It goes without saying that turning down easy money like that may sound troublesome. If you think about it, this kind of task could be performed nearly automatically using the right software…and you’d just be giving the customer exactly what he asked for? Without much effort, you could figure out a way to justify yourself. Provided you’re a professional SEO consultant, you’re expected of nothing short of doing what you know will bring about most effectiveness. That particular assignment would be expendable; you professional integrity would not.

There will be other chances to make good money with customers who don’t require that you compromise your professional integrity. Just the positive reputation you get from turning down an intransigent customer will be more than your money’s worth… literally. Trust me!

Submit to DMOZ

I have always been sceptical with regards to DMOZ, lots of people think that a single link from them is going to turn their site into a gold mine. Fact of the matter is that while it does hold some merit, the emphasis that some people put on it is simple unnecessary.

We have all done it, submitted a site to DMOZ then check the directory every day for the next month with nothing.

The first time i tried to add a site to DMOZ I got nothing for over 6 months. I visited some forums and discussed this with other members, there was talk of corruption at DMOZ, examples of editors protecting their own interests and blocking out categories to other legitimate sites. Lets not forget the infamous “Shoemoney” incident. I questioned one of the editors on DigitalPoint and was completely stonewalled with the policy this and policy that routine.

After hearing all the bad stories about it I always considered it to be a lost cause. However all this “cloak & dagger” behaviour has come into the public eye and DMOZ looks to have had a big shake up. This in mind I decided to give it a shot for our company site and yesterday added it to the most relevant category. Lets see what happens

Making SEO more natural

Lets take a look at link building and how Google finds your links. I am of the opinion that Google is able to tell the difference between natural links and SEO links while google does not see SEO as spam it prefers natural links and thus gives more value to the site being linked to.

I recently seen this in a little experiment i done, I made a site with unique content, optimised the site to be SEO friendly and started link building, I had in my arsenal a tone of unique documents, never before spidered by Google, totalled over 100,000 words of material. I started with the usual, Directory submissions and bookmarking in all my accounts and joined a few on topic forums and started posting.

Next was to visit all our company article accounts and upload a article to each one, I had 50 unique articles and submitted only 1 to each site that i knew it would be guaranteed to be accepted.

The next step was to create accounts on free blogging platforms and posted to all 40 of them every day for a week with my unique content, varying the anchor text and using a combination of urls and landing pages. What I done in this situation that i didn’t do in past experiments is use a variety of urls pointing to the same page, for example:

http://infiniteseo.co.uk

http://www.infiniteseo.co.uk

http://www.infiniteseo.co.uk/index.html

http://infiniteseo.co.uk/index.html

Here we have got 4 links that all point to the same page and all count as a valid backlink, the same an be done for internal or deep links.

Now even thought all 4 URL’s link to the same page on the site they are classed as different links. So 1 Anchor can be used 4 times before you move on to the next keyphrase. for example:

SEO Company based in the UK Links via the URL - http://infiniteseo.co.uk

SEO Company based in the UK Links via the URL - http://www.infiniteseo.co.uk

SEO Company based in the UK Links via the URL - http://www.infiniteseo.co.uk/index.html

SEO Company based in the UK Links via the URL - http://infiniteseo.co.uk/index.html

Then move onto another phrase like “UK SEO Company based around Cheshire”

So by using a combination of anchor text and url combined with constant unique content i was able to get the site ranked 16th for a 26,000,000 competition keyword within the space of 3 weeks.

Now I’m not saying that i could do this for every niche but it damn sure worked well for this one.

I got very lucky here, I had a massive amount of unique content, which was given to me for free by members of my Facebook group after i messaged all 80,000 members and asked them to participate. In the real world it would cost over £10,000 to pay someone to write al that content and it would take them months, hence a team of writers would be needed.

The proof is in the pudding so to speak.

Why don’t you have a blog?

Studies shown by Burson-Marstellers showed that there aren’t many Fortune 500 companies that communicate with consumers via blogs. In fact, only 15% of them do. I expected that number to be higher. I am not surprised considering the business world all together. Online businesses should be blogging anyway, but many are not.

I have listed some overly used excuses as to why this is so, and the reasons why they do not compensate for why this is happening.

1.Not enough money to configure a blog

Wordpress is free, but that still doesn’t justify anything. You can always buy a designer to design a layout for you, but if you do not have the budget for this, you can find some free ones on the internet. Also, if you have any designing skills, you can customize the graphics in the layouts.

Wordpress not for you? There is always Moveable Type.
You don’t have to worry about payments, because this blogging system is free.

2.We don’t have anything to say

If you have a product or service to sell, and you have a sales copy on your website to promote it, then there is something for you to say. E-commerce websites can give you a topic to talk about in your blog posts.

There are many topics like these ones:
- News on a certain industry
- New products or offers
- Product reviews
- Customer testimonies
- Q & A
- Personal company news

3. No one is available to make blog posts

Maybe you don’t have many workers who can make posts, but it’s okay. There is an alternative.
You can always hire a specialist for help. Find a freelance writer who has the skills you are looking for.

4.Scared

You may be scared that customers might talk about you or to you, but don’t worry. They might be talking about you already, so why not get to tell your side of the story. An open comments option on the blog can improve the company. The costumer may tell you how good your products are, or what you can improve on. Not allowing them to have a say on your blog, might drive them somewhere else that they can, and then you will have no control.

Those are some excuses that companies use most.

10 Things About Duplicate Content

Duplicate Content is one of the most perplexing problems in SEO. In this post I am going to outline 15 things about how Google handles duplicate content.

  • Google’s standard response would be to filter out any duplicate pages, and show only one page with a given set of algorithmic parameters in its returned results.
  • Its clear by viewing SERPs that large media companies seem to be able to show copies of press releases and do not get filtered out.
  • Google will hardly ever penalize a site for duplicate content. Their belief is that it is merely irrelevant.
  • There are times when Google will penalize, but this is going to take some pretty blatant plagiarism or the site has very little value to the end user. Or the site is simply made for the purpose of advertising. I have seen instances of algorithmically applied penalties for sites with large amounts of duplicate content.
  • Examples of sites that add little value are thin affiliate sites, which are sites that use copies of third party material for its content, and exists just get search traffic and promote affiliate programs. If this is your site, Google may well seek to penalize you.
  • When Google visits your site, they have a number of pages that they are likely to crawl based on their previous crawls data. One of the costs of duplicate content is that when the crawler loads a duplicate page, one that they are not going to index, they have loaded that page instead of a page that they might index. This is a big downside to duplicate content if your site is not fully indexed as a result.
  • Google finds it easy to detect certain types of duplicate content, like as print pages, archive pages in blogs, and thin affiliates. These are usually recognized as being inadvertent and don’t get indexed as standard.
  • Google are still working with RSS feeds and the best way to keep them from showing up as duplicate content. The recent Google purchase of Feed Burner should speed the resolution of that issue.
  • One key thing they use as a signal as to what page to select from a group of duplicates, is that they look at and see what page is linked to the most.
  • Finally, if you DO want to see duplicate content results, just do your search, get the results, and append the “&filter=0? parameter to the end of your search results and refresh the page.

Moving Away From Paid Links

We never buy links and we always advise our clients not to buy links either. Never less there are occasions when we take on a new client who has been paying for links for a while, after consulting with us they decide that its best to move away from buying links and moving towards earning natural links. So do they just stop dead?

We usually advise that they don’t stop dead. Google has an interesting problem. They don’t really want to ban a site for buying links, unless the site is blatantly abusing its position either financially or morally. This leaves them in the position of discounting the paid links they detect, and leaving the rest alone.

I don’t know what percentage of paid links Google succeeds in detecting, be it algorithmically, human review, or due to a paid links report in Webmaster Tools. There is a lot of evidence out there to show that Google is not finding all of them. Yet. Their algorithm grows smarter by the day and the greed of webmasters selling links only increases the chances of being caught.

If you search on any very competitive term you will see sites ranking well via the use of paid links, sponsored wordpress themes, hit counters and other shady methods. Ok they are doing well for the short term, but the algorithm will update and Google will slap them out of their index at worst.

The bottom line is that if your buying links today, you want to transition away from that to improve the long term risk profile of your site. Your going to need a transition plan. Don’t simply drop all your paid links at once. Phase them our over time as you replace them with organic links earned based on the merit of your content or tools.

It makes sense to be honest, when you think about it logically, Google has and will continue to get smarter and will always catch the cheaters. As the old saying goes – Cheaters never win.

Blackhat SEO - It works but does it really pay off?

In the continuous evolution of technology today competition gets tougher by the hour and at times the dark side becomes really tempting path for us to go to.

Does Blackhat SEO works? That would be a definite yes, no questions asked. Why would people even bother doing so if it doesn’t right. In our continued research of the dark arts, we even came to a site that has proof of it that it works. So yes, the dark side is powerful hence it is tempting.

But is it really worth to squeeze it out of you to pursue it? Is it really worth looking for somebody elses flaw rather than continue on improving yourself?

Even as a personal principle it is not. It’s like when you get to know someone, you always want to know them better to find their flaws and exploit it. Nobody’s perfect and that’s a fact, but everyone does evolve, correct these imperfections and become wiser.

And so does Google, why do you think Google employs the best guys in the business to tackle these issues. Have you ever realized the sudden change in competition? Why at one time your keyword has like 70M competitors and just like that it becomes 5M? Well Google gets wiser and wiser everyday. Putting so much effort for a flaw that would definitely be corrected would really be a waste.

So again, tempting as it is, would it be really worth to go to the dark side? A definite NO. It doesn’t matter what you know today, what matter is what happens tomorrow. Everyday Google enhances itself to become better and better and to give searchers more and more valuated organic results. So you might get away with it today, but justice is always served to the unjust, and at this point it would probably be your largely invested online business that’s going to take the pain.

Ethically, Financially, business wise, going to extremities of exploiting something or someone is definitely not the answer.

SEO Strategies: Keyword Optimisation and Backlinks

If you have a website or some space to call your own on the Web, you have to know the ins and outs of SEO before you can be successful. For your site to be successful, you need traffic. People must come to your website and linger. SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation, can help you achieve this.

A website can have different aims – it might be to share information you have, with no commercial interests at all, or it might be your source of income. Either way, SEO plays a very important role in how satisfactory your site is.

There are different SEO tools through which you can make sure your site or page gets good ranking on searches, and, therefore, gets more traffic. Let us take a look at two of these SEO practices.

Keyword Optimisation

Keyword optimisation is one of the most important SEO tools you can have. Search engines look for the frequency of occurrence of the keyword in titles, subtitles and the content of your page. The best way to take advantage of this SEO tool is to first identify the search phrases most commonly used that are relevant to your page. In your eagerness to SEO your page, do not just stuff your page with keywords. Unless the content is relevant, the strategy will backfire and you will go back several pages or be completely ignored by search engines.

Backlinks

Building backlinks is another very useful SEO tactic. Search engines rank your site based on how many backlinks you have. But if you get carried away with SEO and just look to get backlinks any way you can, the strategy might again backfire. Reciprocated backlinks do not have as much value as one-way backlinks. Also, the sites to which you are linked to can determine the effectiveness of this SEO strategy. Some sites are considered to be quality sites, like .gov and .ac sites. They also very rarely have a huge number of links. So a link to any of these websites will be a lot more valuable for SEO than any number of links to directories where you can easily buy links. The bad reputation of these directories can affect your search ranking, as well. If you have too many links from these sites, you might be blacklisted, as well.

There are plenty of other strategies to make sure that your website ranks well in searches, but keyword optimisation and building backlinks are two of the most important SEO strategies that you can adopt.

UK SEO Company: Why and How to Choose One

The first question that follows the statement that you should opt for a UK SEO company is, why should it specifically be a UK SEO company? The concept of the global village has caught on, the Internet connects everybody. Is there any merit to the thought that you should consider the services of a UK SEO company?

The simple fact of the matter is that if your business is based in the UK, or if you are in the UK, you will do much better to opt for a UK SEO company. Customer care will be much more comprehensive, it will be much easier to contact them, and they will know your market better. After all, before you aim at the global market, you will want to make sure that you get a good number of hits on searches within the UK itself. UK SEO companies will understand that many searches are geographically restricted. You must have noticed that many people click the ‘search pages from the UK’, so a UK SEO company will know how to optimise your site for these searches.

But there are some basic guidelines before you choose a UK SEO company: after all, you have to find the right UK SEO company for you.

There are certain things you must look for in a UK SEO company. First, you have to see whether their SEO practices are what you want. If you are ethically not comfortable with some of their strategies, steer clear of them. The most important requirement is that you should be comfortable with the company working for you.

If the UK SEO company makes very unrealistic claims, be skeptical. They might generate tons of backlinks that might eventually lead to your site getting banned. Set realistic aims for yourself and for the UK SEO company you choose. You should know the limitations of the company as well, so that you can make your plans with them in mind. There are plenty of ways to optimise your site, so have an idea of which ways are the most important to you: keyword management, website revision and development, pay-per-click advertisements, article submission etc.
It is also important to choose a UK SEO company with a good customer service. Look for forums where you can find honest feedback.

Look for the company’s track record. If they have been around for a while, you can probably trust them. But it is important to note that you cannot always trust the track record the company provides on its site. Do your research. There are plenty of UK SEO companies to choose from, so making an effort to choose the right one will eventually be paid off.

SEO and Keywords

SEO or Search Engine Optimisation has become the key to a successful website. One of the most important aspects of SEO is keywords. Unless you identify keywords and use SEO strategies to make sure that they are incorporated in your site, you will not get traffic. Getting traffic is the first step for your site to be successful.

here are plenty of SEO tools available that can help you identify relevant keywords that get the most searches in your field. You have free and paid SEO tools to choose from. You get better services from paid services, but if you would rather not invest in one, free SEO tools can help you, as well.

Once you have your list of keywords, you have to edit and prune it, and decide which keywords you will focus on. Then you have to figure out what keyword density you want and where the keywords should be. Placing the keywords right is important for SEO. Keyword in the domain name is a great advantage.

SEO used to be easy – you could just jam in as many keywords as possible as many times as possible and your site would figure right at the top of searches. Now if the content does not make sense, search engine algorithm will detect it and your site will drop down in searches. It might even be banned from searches.

You can find plenty of article spin software on the net, but they almost never give logical and comprehensible articles that make interesting reading. SEO can make sure that people visit your site. What they do after that depends on your content, so there is not substitute for actual well-written and Search Engine Optimised content that has the necessary keyword density.
Where the keyword appears on your page is also very important. No matter how relevant your website is, unless you place keywords strategically, it will not be ranked high on searches. This is a very important aspect of SEO. Keywords should be in the title tag, in the meta tag and in the body of the text.

Within the meta tag, meta description tag and meta keyword tag are important. The first is a short description of your site or page, the second helps search engines index your site. In the body, the proximity of keywords to the beginning of the page is good SEO strategy. Proximity of keywords to each other is another important SEO strategy.

Using keywords is not the only SEO strategy you must use, but it is a very important one.

Search Engine Management: Some Things You Can Do

Too often, Search Engine Optimisation and Search Engine Management are used interchangeably. But Search Engine Management has many factors, of which Search Engine Optimisation is only one, though an important one. Let us take a look at some of the main factors that comprise Search Engine Management.

Keyword identification is an important aspect of Search Engine Management. Everybody talks about getting their websites and blogs keyword optimised, but before you can optimise your site for keywords, you have to know exactly which key words to optimise your pages and your content for. As part of Search Engine Management, relevant keywords must be identified out of the millions of combinations of words people search for every day.

Then comes Search Engine Optimisation, which is an essential part of Search Engine Management. You have to make sure that your site has the right titles, subtitles, meta descriptions, link texts, hyperlink urls etc for each page. All the different SEO strategies are very important here. Once you have identified the relevant key words, which is the first step of Search Engine Management, you have to do what you can to make sure that search engines index and pick up your pages. Just stuffing your pages with keywords used to work, but now Search Engine Management has to be much more complicated, because search engine algorithms can and will pick up spammers, sooner or later.

The next factor concerning Search Engine Management is rather new. Your site will be scored by a search engine based on how long the user stays on your page. This naturally means that you have to give the user good enough reason to stay on your page. The content is the only way to make sure the user stays on your page, so a very important part of Search Engine Management is to make sure that you have relevant and compelling content on your page.

Sponsor listings are also a great way of Search Engine Management. These are also called pay-per-click advertisements, and most search engines have them – AdWords for Google, Ad Centre for Yahoo and Live Ads for MSN. As the name suggests, your page will appear among sponsored ads when the key words you have bid for are searched for, and the ranking depends on factor including your bid amount. Your bid amount will be deducted from your account each time you get a click. This way of Search Engine Management can be a bit expensive, but, on the bright side, if it costs you plenty, you can rest assured that it is effective advertising and Search Engine Management!

There are many things you have to keep in mind if you want good traffic – good Search Engine Management is mandatory.

Find your Perfect Roommate!

Roommate finding services can be a huge help in reducing some of the stress involved in locating a good roommate. There is a lot to consider in the process, and a roommate finder provides a great deal of important information. After all, compatibility on a number of levels is vital. The beauty of using a roommate finding service is that all the functionality of an apartment search engine and free person finder is at your finger tips. More than a listing of people looking to share housing, roommate finding services provide resources that help match compatible people and environments.
Important considerations when using a roommate finder
• Know what you want – Make a list of important qualities in a potential roommate before searching through a roommate finder. When you share quarters with another person, daily habits, personalities, etc become pretty important. If you are a smoker, for example, you probably would do best sharing housing with another smoker or someone who does not have an issue with smoking. You’ll have greater success connecting with the right person once you have an idea what type of person you wish to live with.

• Do some research - Take advantage of all the information available in a roommate finding service’s database. Search not only by location, but review the profile of a potential roommate carefully before making contact. Consider all aspects of the person – what they do for a living, what they are studying, hobbies, temperament, religious and political beliefs – when evaluating whether or not they could be a good fit with your lifestyle.

• Consider the person and the location – In some cases, roommate finding services resemble a cross between a free person finder and an apartment finder; information on both topics is readily available. When you need a place to live as well as someone to share the space, it’s important to match your needs to both considerations. In addition to interviewing potential roommates to determine personal compatibility, you’ll need to consider the location and state of the living space itself.

• Things to keep in mind are :
o the length and convenience of a daily commute from a potential living space.
o whether the condition of the living quarters meet your needs
o if there is enough space in the area for you and a potential roommate to live together comfortably.
o your level of comfort in the neighborhood
o whether or not the rent or mortgage is in your budget.
o if the living space includes private areas for either roommate
o if pets are allowed
